Squarespace and A Beat Happening present a special music showcase for Black History Month featuring ABH alumni Ms.Elle, VIBRA, and Auvie Sinclair. There will be a special introduction by Ruby Joy White. Complimentary snacks and drinks provided throughout the event.

This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

RUBY JOY WHITE
MODERATOR/ PRESENTER
Ruby Joy White (She/Prince) serves as a consultant for equity, anti-racist, & identity/positionality workshops. Additionally, Ruby curates music/creative spaces and is a Content Writer for Art For Ourselves, an online grassroots community publication for QTBIBPOC artists, activists, and cultural workers. She also serves as the Director of the Multicultural Resource Center at Reed College.

AUVIE SINCLAIR
Auvie Sinclair (aka Mikey Smith) is a Portland, OR via Everett, WA-based artist focused on providing a positive yet simplistic message through music. Auvie’s latest release “Float!” weaves in and out of funk, boom bap, and more experimental genres effortlessly. Some of his influences include Cameo, Gorillaz, Madlib and J Dilla, as well as sounds from influential labels Brainfeeder and Hyperdub.

MS. ELLE
Ms.Elle is a Afro Latino hip hop artist based in Portland, OR. Rooted in a love for funk and jazz, Ms.Elle sheds light on her journey of finding herself in her 20's while experimenting with melodic wordplay. After years of performing in New York City, Ms.Elle strives to solidify herself within the growing hip hop community in Portland.

VIBRA
Vibra (aka Kyle Richardson) is a Portland-based beat maker is making his mark on the Portland beat scene with his recent release “Delirium,” a heavy hitting psychedelic inspired beat tape. Originally influenced by The Heatmakerz, Just Blaze and Kanye West, he eventually discovered the underground side of hip hop: he cites Madlib, Dilla, and The Alchemist as some of the beat makers who he studies and is inspired by.

A BEAT HAPPENING
A Beat Happening is an all-ages, free, monthly, inclusive, electronic/hip hop producer showcase, a YouTube channel, and record label. Founded by Sembla (Derrick Taruc) and Luvjonez (Jonas Angelet), our intention for the event is to create a communal space dedicated to the growth of the Portland left-field beat, hip-hop, and DJ scene.

We are completely not-for-profit and volunteer run, dedicated to D.I.Y. principles and ideals. We are also dedicated to making our events a safe space for young people, women, and LGBTQIA, so please get with us if we should do better, and especially get with us if you are a young person, woman, and/or LGBTQIA who makes beats and/or DJs.
